100+ DESIGNERS, HOTELIERS, OWNERS AND DEVELOPERS COMPRISE LARGEST-EVER BDWEST SPEAKER LINEUP

Boutique Design’s fourth annual West Coast trade fair and conference to present 30+ interactive discussions and CEU sessions for hospitality design professionals, March 31-April 1 in Los Angeles

More than 100 design and business leaders from the hospitality industry’s most respected hotel brands and architectural, design and purchasing firms will share their perspectives at the fourth annual Boutique Design West (BDwest) trade fair and conference, March 31-April 1, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The 2016 conference program features 30+ interactive discussions and CEU sessions in four tracks: Inspiration, Information, Interaction and a new track devoted to the business of design, Intel.

The conference program kicks off on Thursday, March 31, with the “2016 Boutique Design Up-and-Coming Hoteliers” panel discussion featuring the visionary leaders behind influential hotel brands SH Group, Début Hotel Group and SIXTY Hotels.

Boutique Design Executive Editor and Conference Director Mary Scoviak will moderate the Hoteliers session as well as the “Boutique Design Power Players: Women Leaders in Hospitality” breakfast and panel discussion, a ticketed, BD signature event co-sponsored by NEWH. Panelists include: Claire Eeles, Global Business to Business Leader, Restoration Hardware; Dawn Hagin, Chief Inspiration Officer, Lark Hotels; Tiina Martin, Managing Director of Interior Design, Cachet Hotel Group; Diana Simaan Kessler, Creative Director, The Kessler Collection; Margaret Schutze, Vice President, Wilson Red; and Andrea Dawson Sheehan, Principal, Art Director, Dawson Design Associates.

“The goal for BDwest is to offer designers a one-stop information/networking stop for everything they need to fuel their creativity, polish their technical skills and make their businesses better, faster and smarter,” says Scoviak.

 In addition to the signature session “ISHP/Boutique Design Owners’ Grill,” with insights from leading hoteliers and investors, BDwest attendees will have access to two panel discussions with honorees of Boutique Design’s Boutique 18 awards for rising stars in hospitality design. “Meet the Boutique 18,” on Friday, April 1, will feature the recently announced 2016 class of inductees; earlier in the day, “Boutique 18 Update: Catching Up With BD’s Up-and-Coming Designers” will feature past honorees now working with BAMO, The Gettys Group, NICOLEHOLLIS, Puccini Group and more.

Panelists for the 2016 “Brand Central” signature session include leaders from both established hotel chains and influential, young brands, with insights for designers looking to win their business. Speakers include: Edwin Hendriksen, Senior Vice President, Development and Investments–North America, citizenM; Amy Hulbert, Managing Director of Design, Best Western International; Daniel Hyde, Vice President, Design, Development and Construction, Pacifica Hotels; and Toni Stoeckl, VP Lifestyle Brands, Marriott International.

New this year, Intel, a track devoted to the business of hospitality design, will give designers practical advice and insights from industry owners, developers and design firm principals. Intel session speakers include Michael Dalton, Principal, Whitespace Interiors; Rich Leahy, Director, Design – Focused Service, Hilton Worldwide; Margaret McMahon, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Wimberly Interiors; Chad Sorensen, Managing Director, CHMWarnick; and Glenn Wilson, Vice President, Global Design Services, JW and MH Brands, Marriott International.

The program’s Inspiration track continues to feature voices from outside the hospitality design industry, including San Francisco-based, spray paint artist Chor Boogie and the creative team behind West Hollywood’s famed Blind Dragon karaoke lounge. The session “Lights! Camera! Design!,” moderated by Burba Hayes Co-founders Jim Burba and Bob Hayes, explores design strategies borrowed from the world of film set design. Panelists include: Sean Daly, Production and Hospitality Designer; Jack Plotnick, Actor and Director; and Seth Reed, Production Designer.
