In a career of over thirty years in the travel industry, Peter Connolly has acted as advisor and counsellor to the senior management of hotel companies, airlines, banks, developers, and hotel owners. His range of substantive expertise includes hotel operations, financial feasibility analysis, acquisitions, divestitures, lending, workouts, bankruptcy, and technology, as well as ground up development.
Connolly spent the bulk of his career in the Hyatt organization, developing Hyatt’s in-house legal department for hotel operations, and during various periods was also responsible for the human resources, development, and information technology functions of the company. He managed Hyatt’s company-wide strategic planning initiatives in the 1990’s and served for fifteen years on the company’s senior management committee. He was part of the Hyatt team that acquired and later sold Braniff Airlines, and functioned as Braniff’s chief legal officer during the four years that Hyatt controlled the company. Connolly retired from Hyatt as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Information officer of Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
Connolly began his career as a trial lawyer at United Airlines, and during his eight years at the carrier served as the company’s principal antitrust and regulatory lawyer, tried over thirty cases before the U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board, and was chief counsel to United’s efforts in the deregulation of the airline industry for which he was honored with the United Airlines’ Chairman’s award. More recently, Connolly was a member of the Global Hospitality practice of Los Angeles based Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Mitchell. He served as investment advisor to the successful purchaser of Regent Hotels & Resorts. He also developed residential condominiums in suburban Chicago, and was Executive Vice President-Operations and Development of Hostmark Hospitality Group, a Chicago based independent, hotel management company.
Currently, Connolly is the principal of Connolly & Co., a boutique hospitality consulting practice, specializing in advisory services to lenders and both onshore and offshore hotel investors. The firm’s active assignments include the redevelopment and re-branding of a 600 room hotel at LAX, the acquisition and redevelopment of a 700 room hotel near Anaheim, California, and the acquisition, rezoning and redevelopment of a 160 acre hotel campus in suburban Chicago.
A graduate of Providence College and the law school of the Catholic University of America, Connolly is married, has three adult children and lives near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
