Simone Mayer, founder of FOH®, Inc. and its brands, Front of the House® and room360˚ by FOH®, comes from an extraordinary and diverse background. Simone was born and raised in South Africa, later moving to New York, where she attended Columbia University, and received a BA in American Women’s and Cultural History in 1991. In 1995 she received an MBA in Marketing and Management of Organizations from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. Known for her leadership abilities and entrepreneurial spirit, Simone was drawn to retail and product development, which all led her to compose a winning Business Plan for a retail project on Miami Beach—real.life.basic.
To gain additional retail management and product development expertise, Simone joined Coach Leatherwear as Product Manager, where she managed seven product lines, and oversaw marketing and other creative aspects of the business.
In 1996, Simone was recruited by Viacom Retail Group and relocated to Ft. Lauderdale as their Senior Product Development Manager. There she developed innovative products for their entertainment retailing start-up, and was solely responsible for the development of all accessories for MTV, Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite brands, which represent 60% of Viacom Entertainment Store’s product mix. In 1998, when Viacom Retail moved their headquarters to Texas, Simone seized the moment to make her MBA Business Plan come to life. Simone planned and launched her kitchen/home accessory retail business, real.life.basic which was one of the top retail sources for cool, unique tabletop wares and accessories in the US.
With the buzz it created among Hotels, Chefs and Food & Beverage Managers, it was soon apparent there was a need for a wholesale division. Thus, Front of the House® was created and is now successfully in its’ 16th year. Five years later, room360 by FOH® was launched at the behest of their hospitality clients who were hungry for fashion forward, reliable accessory solutions. Both divisions have enjoyed consistent growth in both revenue and size over the last 16 years.
As CEO and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) for FOH®, Simone is the driving force behind FOH’s thousands of innovative product solutions and their widely recognized and applauded corporate culture.
