For more than three decades, Sue Firestone has cultivated her personal passion for design, operating two California-based, leading international interior design firms and assembling a portfolio that includes the world’s premier five-and six-star hotel brands and luxury estates. As chairman and Founder of sfa design, Sue has led the firm to complete acclaimed projects throughout the United States, U.A.E. Asia, and Mexico, providing services for hotel operators that include Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Ritz Carlton Hotels, Waldorf Astoria Collections, Fairmont Hotels & resorts, Abu Dhabi National Hotels, and Walt Disney Parks & Resorts.
Sue has received dozens of honors and awards, including the Platinum Circle Award from Hospitality Design, a place on Robb Report’s “Top 40 Best Designers in the World,” chairing the Environmental Sustainability and Performance Panel at Cornell University’s 2012 Hospitality Research Summit, and becoming a board member for Delos Living.
Sue now focuses her design creativity on a line of fabrics and furniture that is near and dear to her heart. She recently launched her luxury couture Malibu Collection for Kravet, the largest fabric house in the world. Her California-inspired furniture collection for A. Rudin is an homage to her lifelong love of nature, the outdoors, and travel. She plans to continue to launch custom product design lines in tile, marble, carpet and lighting.
Sue’s vision as a designer has always been influenced by her love of nature and exploration. She spent her childhood growing up on a farm in Malibu. As a teenager she sailed around the world, sparking a lifelong passion for travel and adventure. Her rooted love of the California aesthetic is ever-enriched by design discoveries she makes in all corners of the world, from grand-scale innovations to intricate details. The result is almost always a contemporary spin on organic shapes, patterns, textures, and materials.
